The Mindy Project creator and star will discuss her upcoming book, Why Not Me?, in a discussion moderated by her fellow author and former Office onscreen beau, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The chat is set for Saturday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at New York City’s Javits Center.
Kaling and Novak’s panel will kick off BookCon, the consumer extension of BookExpo America that has expanded to two days. They join the lineup of already-announced BookCon panels with Julianne Moore, Nick Offerman, Taye Diggs, Leigh Bardugo (The Grisha Trilogy), Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries) and Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles).
Why Not Me? — which hits shelves Sept. 29 via Crown; Archetype — follows Kaling’s 2011 bestseller, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). Her second collection of comedic essays zooms in on her second coming of age, including the ups and downs of now being “a tiny bit famous,” and figuring out her own work-life balance, especially after watching friends start their own families.
Novak’s published works include his short story collection One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories and his hit children’s book The Book with No Pictures.
“As witnessed by the success of their books and on-screen work, Mindy and B.J. are two of the most inventive and original comedic minds in Hollywood,” said Brien McDonald, BookCon show manager, in a statement. “Kicking off BookCon with their witty exchanges will be an unforgettable moment for fans to experience and set the stage for the rest of our programming perfectly.”
