Bunim/Murray Productions wants to tumble for Boy George.
The producers behind Keeping Up With the Kardashians are teaming with the Culture Club frontman for a new docuseries chronicling George’s move from London to Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled series, which is in development, will chronicle his move across the globe, new life in the states — including dating, house hunting and embarking on Culture Club’s North American tour — as well as managing pop group Brando, launching a vegan food line and visiting family.
“This series will give viewers unprecedented access to his life as he launches his first tour in years and lets the cameras capture this next chapter of his life and career,” said BMP exec vp development and programming Jeff Jenkins, who will oversee production.
George’s manager, Paul Kemsley, and Cindy Cowan (Very Bad Things) brought the project to BMP. George, Kemsley, Cowan and BMP’s Gil Goldschein and Jenkins will executive produce.
George has sold more than 100 million singles and 50 million albums as a performer/songwriter with 1980s band Culture Club in addition to his solo career. He’s also a successful DJ and has toured the globe. The goal with the untitled docuseries is to begin production in the summer when George arrives in L.A. A network is not yet attached.
“Boy George is a musical and cultural icon, and it’s about time someone captured his story,” said Goldschein, BMP’s chairman and CEO. “We are experts in producing celeb-reality docuseries, and we couldn’t be more excited with the opportunity to tell this story with the right broadcast partner.”
The George series comes as ’80s icons continue to be in high demand for unscripted fare. Former A-Team star Mr. T recently landed a home improvement series on DIY called I Pity the Tool, among others.
