Bravo is 2-for-2 with its original scripted offerings.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has renewed its first original scripted comedy series Odd Mom Out for a second season.
Odd Mom Out is based on star Jill Kargman‘s life and captures the outrageous world of uber-wealthy “momzillas” of New York’s Upper East Side. Kargman stars and plays a version of herself navigating a world that has become so elite, hip and trendy that she’s now the odd mom out. The comedy is based on her novel Momzillas (Doubleday/Broadway), which was published in 2007. The news comes a week after the series wrapped its 10-episode freshman season.
The comedy ranks as Bravo’s highest-rated new series launch this year. The comedy, co-starring Abby Elliott, Andy Buckley, KK Glick, Sean Kleier and Joanna Cassidy, averaged 958,000 total viewers and 568,000 viewers among adults under 50 when factoring in three days of delayed viewing.
“Mom and non-mom viewers alike — from Beverly Hills to Brooklyn — have found a spirit animal in Jill Kargman’s hilarious and relatable depiction of a woman struggling to keep up,” said Lara Spotts, senior vp development at Bravo Media. “We are excited to bring fans more of this vibrant and highly entertaining world driven by an amazing cast and creative team.”
Odd Mom Out joins scripted drama Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (which was also renewed for a sophomore season) on Bravo’s scripted roster as the cabler continues to push into the increasingly crowed arena.
