An average of 5.8 million viewers in the U.K. tuned in to watch the Brit Awards on ITV Wednesday evening, according to overnight ratings.
The show saw Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith collect two awards each, Kanye West mocked mercilessly by the hosts and Madonna suffer a major stage malfunction, tumbling during her closing performance.
According to figures released by ITV, the 5.8 million gave the major music awards show a 26 percent share of the U.K. TV audience at the time. It was up from 2014’s 4.6 million average, which was the awards show’s lowest overnight rating ever, but down from 6.5 million in 2013.
The show peaked with 6.8 million viewers, a 34 percent share, between 10:10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. U.K. time, when Madonna was performing. Her performance and fall also drew much reaction on social media.
Overnights.tv tweeted that the 2015 Brit Awards were watched by almost 50 percent of viewers aged 16-24 in Britain.
