LONDON – A fresh one-off episode of cult British comedy show The Comic Strip Presents has been greenlight by British pay TV platform UKTV to air on its channel Gold.
The Comic Strip Presents debuted in 1982 with Five Go Mad in Dorset, starring Adrian Edmondson, Dawn French, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Peter Richardson, Jennifer Saunders and Alexei Sayle, in a parody of storyteller Enid Blyton‘s British children’s classic series The Famous Five.
UKTV, a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and Scripps Networks International, has also given the go-ahead for a two-hour documentary special entitled 30 Years of the Comic Strip, to air on Gold.
To trumpet the 30th anniversary of the series, The Comic Strip Presents Five Go To Rehab, will be produced by Great Western Features and written by the original writer Richardson.
The one off show will return to Dorset, the county where it all began and is billed as a difficult family reunion of sorts. The original cast members are expected to turn out for the show.
UKTV commissioning editor Sarah Fraser commissioned The Comic Strip Presents Five Go To Rehab and it was ordered by Gold general manager Steve North.
