Things are looking up for writer Hank Moody.
Earlier this week, Showtime officially renewed Californication, pushing the half-hour David Duchovny dark comedy to a sixth season, and in next week’s episode, “Love Song,” Hank writes a song with Kali (Meagan Good) that reminds him of happier times in Los Angeles.
In this exclusive clip to The Hollywood Reporter, Hank’s ex Karen (Nascha McElhone) comes knocking at his door declaring that she may have made a big mistake with Richard (Jason Beghe).

At first thinking that Karen’s tears were caused by their daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), Hank quickly finds out about Richard’s drinking problems.
“He won’t stop drinking. I don’t think he can,” Karen says tearfully. “I don’t think I can do it. I don’t think I can live like this.”
Hank tries to reassure her: “I’m sure he’ll get it under control.”

But Karen isn’t so sure.
The on-again, off-again couple have been through thick and thin during the course of five seasons and as the scene ends, doubt begins to settle in and an inkling of hope begins to form.
What do you think happens next?
Californication airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. on Showtime.
