The camera operator was sent to the hospital after he was struck by an SUV early Wednesday morning while filming in east Vancouver. “We can confirm that unfortunately a member of our crew was injured on set early this morning. He was taken to the hospital and was discharged a few hours later,” a BBC America spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement.
Vancouver Police Department spokesman Constable Brian Montague in his own statement said the crash involved a stunt driver in the SUV colliding with the camera operator as the cameras rolled. “At about 12:30 a.m., a 55-year-old cameraman was accidentally struck by a stuntman driving an SUV while on set near east Broadway and Guelph Street,” he said.
Montague added that the cameraman was conscious while being transported by paramedics to a local hospital where his injuries were described as serious, but not life-threatening. “The VPD Collision Investigation Unit, as well as Worksafe BC, attended and are probing the circumstances of the incident,” he added.
Production has resumed on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which was written by Max Landis and hails from the producers of The Walking Dead. The comedic thriller follows the adventures of eccentric detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd (Elijah Wood).
The series is based on Douglas Adams’ graphic novels from IDW Entertainment. Hannah Marks (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Jade Eshete co-star on the show, which has Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe) as its showrunner.
The eight-part co-production with AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW is set to debut Oct. 22 on BBC America.
