TORONTO — The Canadian version of the Emmy-winning series Cash Cab has been involved in a fatal car accident in Vancouver.
A 61 year-old man was struck in downtown Vancouver late Friday night by a mock taxi driven by a producer of the Discovery Channel Canada game show after production had wrapped, the Canadian Press newswire service reported Saturday.
Vancouver police confirmed the unidentified man died after being treated at a nearby hospital.
“My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team,” Andrew Burnstein, president of Castlewood Productions, told the Canadian Press.
The Canadian remake of the successful British TV format features unsuspecting patrons in a replica cab answering trivia questions to either win cash or find themselves stranded on the curb.
Vancouver police said the driver of the Cash Cab vehicle remained at the scene of the accident and was cooperating with an investigation.
