TORONTO – Police and volunteers combing northern Canadian forests for a missing American documentary maker are now searching local waterways.
“Today police are using a number of resources, including river boats, as they are now focusing on the creek beds,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable and spokeswoman Lesley Smith said of the expanded mission to find Ohio filmmaker Warren Andrew Sill, 26, who went missing in the British Columbia wilderness nearly two weeks ago.
Smith added fire fighters have arrived on the scene in the Seven Sisters Provincial Park to cut a second base in the forest so helicopters can deliver much-needed tools and supplies.
Sill entered dense wilderness in the Gull Creek area of New Hazleton B.C. on July 5 to scout for a documentary on elusive spirit bears known to roam in that area.
The RCMP launched a search and rescue mission on July 10 after being alerted to Sill’s abandoned vehicle and discovering inside a sleeping bag, tent and camping stove considered essential to survive a long stay in the area’s rugged terrain.
Sill’s family, which has been in contact with the RCMP, indicated he planned to stay for four or five days in the B.C. wilderness to gather film footage.
