TORONTO – Canadian TV personality Anthony Sayers’ criminal harassment and fraud case has been adjourned again while crown prosecutors consider whether to withdraw all charges.
Sayers’ lawyer, Karen McArthur, told a Toronto court that the crown has yet to fully disclose their case against her client, which includes key information due from two arresting officers.
Outside the court, McArthur added that no prospect of a reasonable criminal conviction against Sayers, the co-host of HGTV Canada’s The Unsellables from Cineflix Productions, should lead to all charges being dropped.
Prosecutors have already withdrawn an extortion charge that stemmed from work done for Toronto homeowner Doreen Boulos by Sayers’ private company in February.
Sayers is still charged with two counts of criminal harassment and one count of fraud under $5,000.
McArthur said she is in discussions with Crown attorney Michael Callaghan to review the case and see whether it can meet the threshold for conviction.
“I don’t think they will be able to meet that test,” she said.
Sayers, 41, was arrested on March 12.
He co-hosts The Unsellables with British TV personality Sophie Allsopp, a series that also airs on HGTV stateside and which helps homeowners with unsightly and unsellable properties prepare for a sale.
Sayers is next due back in court on April 18.
