TNT has picked up off-network cable rights to ABC dramedy Castle, from Disney/ABC Domestic Television.
The cabler said Tuesday that Seasons 1 and 2 of the series starring Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog) and Stana Katic (The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice) will begin airing on TNT in summer 2012 as well as be available for online streaming as well as mobile and tablet viewing.
Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the network paid $1.5 million an episode
“With the addition of Castle, TNT continues to build a collection of hit shows that will perfectly complement our high-profile original series,” said Michael Wright, executive vp and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies.
Castle joins TNT’s recent acquisitions of The Mentalist and Hawaii Five-0, which will begin airing on the cable network in 2014. Both dramas sold for the low-to-mid-$2 million range.
From creator Andrew Marlowe, Castle stars Fillion as a mystery novelist who teams with a NYPD detective to solve cases. The series, which recently wrapped its third season, was renewed in January for a fourth and anchors ABC’s Monday lineup.
