TORONTO – There’s more top management shuffling at the CBC post-Richard Stursberg.
Christine Wilson, executive director for CBC network programming, who stepped in as acting general manager while the public broadcaster late last year looked for Stursberg’s permanent replacement as head of English services, has been promoted to executive director of content planning.
The former general manager post for CBC Television has also been split into two roles, studio and unscripted programming and commissioned and scripted programming.
So Julie Bristow is promoted to executive director, studio and unscripted programming, while Phyllis Platt is promoted to interim executive director, in charge of commissioned and scripted programming.
All three executives will report to Stursberg’s permanent
replacement, Kirstine Stewart, executive vice-president of CBC English Services.
Stursberg and CBC president Hubert Lacroix butted heads over the public broadcaster’s five-year plan to 2015, which culminated with Lacroix prevailing and Stursberg being shown the door.
Stewart and her senior team will now implement the five-year plan as the CBC continues to play catch-up with rival broadcasters CTV and Global Television, and faces competition from the Internet and new digital platforms like Netflix Canada and iTunes.
