CBS All Access is taking a nonlinear approach to its newest drama.
The streamer has given a straight-to-series order to Interrogation, a crime drama in which the episodes can be watched in any order.
Based on the real-life conviction of a young man who was charged and convicted with brutally murdering his mother, Interrogation will let the viewer become the detective. Each episode will be structured on an interrogation taken directly from the real police case files. The first nine episodes will be available to watch in any order, and then the season finale will be released at a later date.
The project, which hails from Bosch producer Fabrik Entertainment, was co-created by Anders Weidemann (30 Degrees in February) and John Mankiewicz (House of Cards, Bosch). They will serve as executive producers alongside Fabrik’s Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate.
“This nonlinear approach to storytelling is closer to how real detectives work, picking their own path through the evidence in a search for the truth,” said Weidemann. Julie McNamara, executive vp original content at CBS All Access, added, “Interrogation pushes the boundaries of what a television series can be with its truly unique format. It’s also a series that could only be executed with the technical capabilities of a streaming service, and we look forward to bringing its innovative approach to our CBS All Access subscribers.”
Interrogation will join a slate of dramas at the subscription service that includes Star Trek: Discovery, The Good Fight, No Activity, Strange Angel, One Dollar and Tell Me a Story. The streamer has also ordered the animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks from Mike McMahan and Alex Kurtzman, and a reboot of The Twilight Zone.
