Getty ImagesCBS is going back into business with Jim Gaffigan.
The network on Friday handed out a pilot order to an untitled comedy project starring the former Welcome to New York star/comedian.
Gaffigan, who starred on the network’s short-lived New York comedy in 2001, is attached to star in the project and will co-write with Rescue Me‘s Peter Tolan.
From Sony Pictures Television and Tolan’s Fedora Entertainment, the single-camera semi-autobiographical comedy revolves around Gaffigan as a happily married and harried New York City father of five — as he is in real life. Fedora’s Michael Wimer and Gaffigan’s manager at Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Alex Murray, will executive produce.

The comedy landed a put pilot commitment at CBS in September and comes after Gaffigan’s most recent comedy album, Mr. Universe, picked up a Grammy nomination. His book, Dad Is Fat, will be released in May.
For Tolan, the comedy comes two years after FX’s firefighter drama Rescue Me ended its seven-season run.
Gaffigan is repped by CAA, Brillstein and Schreck Rose; Tolan is with CAA and Schreck Rose.
The Gaffigan vehicle joins comedy pilots Mom, from Chuck Lorre, and Kal Penn starrer Ex-Men at the network.
