Charlie Sheen’s bizarre behavior is a purposeful attempt to goof on the TV hosts who are interviewing him, said William Shatner, a CBS colleague who stars in Bleep My Dad Says.
Speaking on Michael Medved’s syndicated radio program Thursday, Shatner said Sheen, whom he acknowledges he does not know too well, has not been behaving abnormal and, in fact, has been treated unfairly during some interviews.
“He seems perfectly in the moment and not drugged. His manner of speaking, his cadence, his terms of expression are a little different,” said Shatner. “But he’s not crazy — to my mind — he’s just jagged and putting the interviewers on.”
Shatner said that he was appalled by one TV interview he saw — not by Sheen’s behavior, but by that of the interviewer who was condemning Sheen by her “vocal inflection and facial expression.”
“She had an attitude toward him that was not journalistic but prejudiced. And he was responding to that subliminal condemnation by being a smart ass.”
“I know,” Medved said at the conclusion of the interview, “that (Sheen) is going to appreciate the vote of confidence from somebody who is widely, universally, respected and beloved in the entertainment industry.”
