Chicago P.D. is losing a series regular.
Jon Seda, who has starred on the series since its inception, is set to move to spinoff Chicago Justice full-time, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Seda will continue to play the role of Detective Antonio Dawson, which he has played since the first season of Chicago Fire. It is unclear when Seda’s final P.D. episode will be. Justice is set to launch midseason on NBC.
On Justice, Seda will work for the District Attorney’s office and will be partnered with Joelle Carter’s investigator character, who was introduced in the backdoor pilot for Justice which aired as a May episode of Chicago P.D. The veteran actor joins other Justice castmembers including Philip Winchester, Carl Weathers and Monica Barbaro.
Because of the frequent crossovers between the series, it is highly likely that Seda’s final appearance as a series regular on P.D. might not be his last altogether.
Seda recurred throughout the first season as the partner of Intelligence head Voight (Jason Beghe) and the brother of paramedic-turned-firefighter Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund). The actor’s previous TV credits include a stint on another NBC cop drama, Homicide: Life on the Street, during which time he appeared on an episode of Dick Wolf’s previous legal drama, Law & Order, during a crossover between the two series.
The move is not dissimilar to what Wolf did on Law & Order: Trial by Jury in 2005 when Jerry Orbach moved from the flagship to the spinoff. However, Orbach passed away after filming just two episodes of Trial by Jury.
Seda’s other credits include Treme, The Pacific and Selena. He is repped by APA and Morris Yorn.
