LONDON – ITV drama Broadchurch, which aired on BBC America and is set for a U.S. reboot on Fox, picked up three awards at the 40th Broadcasting Press Guild Awards here on Friday.
The nods, voted for by U.K. journalists who write about TV and radio, included a best actress nod for Olivia Colman for her turn in the show and a BPG writer award for the drama’s creator, Chris Chibnall. Broadchurch was also named best drama.
The BPG awards lunchtime ceremony, sponsored by Discovery Channel, was held at the Theater Royal Drury Lane.

Two actors now well-known for big-screen roles won BPG awards for TV roles on Friday.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee for 12 Years A Slave, picked up the BPG’s best actor award for his role in BBC Two’s Dancing on the Edge, about a jazz band in 1930s London. Meanwhile, the BPG breakthrough award, “for someone who attained a new level of success in 2013,” went to Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan for his performance in The Fall on BBC Two, a crime drama set in Northern Ireland.
Channel 4 won all three awards for factual television. Syria: Across the Lines was voted best single documentary; Educating Yorkshire won the award for best documentary series; and the BPG award for best factual entertainment went to Gogglebox.
The Wipers Times on BBC Two, written by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman and starring Julian Rhind-Tutt and Michael Palin, was voted best single drama, while BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing was named best entertainment program.
