Chris Hyndman, CBC Lifestyle TV Host, Dies at 49

Christopher Hyndman, co-host of the Canadian afternoon lifestyle TV show Steven and Chris, has died, Canada’s CBC network confirmed on Tuesday. He was 49.

Toronto Police Services told the CBC News website on Tuesday that Hyndman’s body was discovered without vital signs in a downtown Toronto alleyway at 11 p.m. on Monday night.

Due to the lack of a “criminal element” in the case and with interviews still being conducted, Toronto police spokeswoman Caroline de Kloet offered no comment when contacted Tuesday by The Hollywood Reporter.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning,” the CBC said in an internal memo issued to network staff.

Hyndman co-starred on Steven and Chris with husband Steven Sabados. The Steven and Chris show, which aired daily at 2 p.m., has been pulled from CBC schedule. Hyndman, who was born in Ottawa, Ontario and raised in Newfoundland, first met Sabados in 1992.

They founded their own design company, The Sabados Group, and debuted on TV with the 2001 lifestyle series Designer Guys on HGTV. That show was followed by two additional HGTV series, Design Rivals and So Chic with Steven and Chris.

The duo eventually launched Steven and Chris as a daily lifestyle show on the CBC in 2008.
