Getty ImagesMore than a year and a half after President Obama announced a withdrawal of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq during the war, CNN has closed its news bureau located in Baghdad.

The network will instead rely on stringers and correspondents based in the country.
“While CNN is departing its current brick-and-mortar location in Baghdad, the network continues to maintain an editorial presence in Iraq through a dedicated team of CNN stringers and correspondent assignments as news warrants,” a network spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The closure was first reported by TV Newser, which also noted CNN was the last U.S. television network to have a dedicated bureau in the capital city.
Other networks have also pared down operations in Baghdad.
Fox News confirmed to THR that, after the recent closure of their own bureau this year, they rely on stringers and correspondents based in Iraq for their coverage. ABC News and NBC News have one full-time producer based in the capital city.
