CNN is adding Politico White House correspondent Tara Palmeri as a political analyst, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. She also has signed with WME in all areas.
Since taking on the White House beat at the dawn of Donald Trump’s administration, she has been called “an idiot with no real sources” by press secretary Sean Spicer, a characterization that Palmeri archly includes in her own Twitter bio. (For its part, Politico defended its reporter, who is remaining with the news organization, issuing a statement that called her “an excellent reporter whose tenacity made her a standout in Europe.”)
Palmeri had spent the past two years writing for Politico from Europe, where she covered the terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, the Greek financial crisis and Brexit. She also was a CNBC contributor during this time. Prior to that, she was at The New York Post for five years, first as a “Page Six” reporter and then as a general assignment and city politics reporter, covering events that included John Edwards’ campaign finance trial, the 2012 Democratic and Republican national conventions and the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.
Shortly after graduating from American University in 2008, Palmeri was hired by the Washington Examiner to co-write its “Yeas & Nays” column, where she grew its traffic from 25,000 to more than 1 million monthly views.
