CNN’s chief political correspondent Dana Bash described the chaotic first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden as a “s*** show” live on air during the network’s postmortem of the event.
The Lead host Jake Tapper opened his post-debate show with the lament that the debate “was a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a train wreck.” He continued, “That was the worst debate I have ever seen, in fact it wasn’t even a debate. It was a disgrace.”

Bash followed Tapper, saying “you used some high-minded language. I’m just gonna say it like it is. That was a s*** show.”
She added: “We’re on cable, we can say that. Apologies for being maybe a little bit crude, but that is really the phrase that I’m getting, you know, from people on both sides of the aisle on text, and it’s the only phrase that I can think of to really describe it.”
The stop-start first debate between the president and the former vice president was increasingly marked by fractious back and forths, with Trump repeatedly interrupting Biden and having to be chided by the moderator Chris Wallace. Among a host of low moments during the debate, Trump failed to denounce white supremacists.
