Comedy Central Renews ‘Inside Amy Schumer,’ Orders Two Series

Comedy Central is firming up its lineup, renewing Inside Amy Schumer and two more, while handing out series orders to Another Period and Idiotsitter and five new digital shows.

The cable network announced Monday that sketch series Schumer will return for a third season alongside Andy Daly‘s scripted comedy Review and animated anthology TripTank, which have been renewed for second seasons. TripTank will return for a supersized 20-episode season after its freshman run of eight installments.

The three shows will be joined by the Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome comedy Another Period and Charlotte Newhouse‘s and Jillian Bell‘s Idiotsitter. The latter was developed at CC: Studios, Comedy Central’s in-house digital studio. Idiotsitter joins Ari Shaffir‘s This Is Not Happening as series that have made the leap from their online platform to the network. Idiotsitter follows a straight-and-narrow woman (Newhouse) who is hired to babysit a wealthy woman-child (Bell) who is under house arrest at her father’s mansion.

Another Period, set at the turn of the century, follows the misadventures of Newport, R.I.’s first family who have nothing to offer the world but have so much money that it doesn’t matter. The show revolves around sisters Lillian (Leggero) and Beatrice (Lindhome) who care only about how they look. Red Hour’s Ben Stiller, Debbie Liebling, Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein exec produce. Michael Ian Black, Paget Brewster, Beth Dover, Brett Gelman, Tom Lennon, Jason Ritter, Rosa Salazar and Armen Weitzman co-star in the pilot. Another Period gives Lindhome two series on the air and joins IFC’s adaptation of musical web sensations Garfunkel & Oates. The series joins Stiller’s Big Time in Hollywood and Jonah and Kumail at Comedy Central.

The news comes as Comedy Central has been ramping up original series with a slate that includes The Kroll Show, Broad City, Workaholics, Key & Peele, South Park and Moonbeam City, among others.

On the digital front, Comedy Central’s five new digital series — 6 Guys 1 Car, 300 Sunnyside, New Timers, Pie Guys and Roustabout With Kurt Braunohler — will premiere across multiple platforms this year. Here’s a closer look at them:

6 Guys 1 Car
Written by and starring Dormtainment’s comedy troupe and directed by Nick Goossen, the series follows six guys from Atlanta to Los Angeles, documenting the “Broke and Famous” lifestyle of their YouTube popularity.

300 Sunnyside
The comedy centers on the six roommates of 300 Sunnyside, who aren’t worried about their stagnant existence; they have too many petty squabbles to occupy their attention. Written by Barry Rothbart and Danny Solomon, the series stars Rothbart, Brian Huskey, Betsy Sodaro, Nick Rutherford, Chris Reinacher and Cornell Reid and is directed by Andy Landen.

New Timers
Written and directed by and starring comedy duo Good Cop Great Cop, aka Matt Porter and Charlie Hankin, New Timers follows Matt and Charlie, two friends who managed to survive the apocalypse. The world has changed, Matt and Charlie have not.

Pie Guys
Written by and starring Jon Barinholtz, Pie Guys follows the lives of three very different breeds of idiot, who work as delivery drivers for a pizza shop. It stars Mort Burke and Rob Belushi and is directed by Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen.

Roustabout With Kurt Braunohler
Written by Kurt Braunohler and Scotty Landes and directed by Jeff Tomsic, Roustabout features Braunohler creating sweeping feats of absurdity to make the world a better place. Each season will feature a specific act of stupidity.

Team Tiger Awesome
Written by Nick Mundy, Michael Truly and Clint Gage, who will direct, the series follows a loose cannon detective, played by Chris Jericho, and his by-the-book partner (Mundy) who kill time on an endless stakeout by doing the one thing that ruins a good detective team…sharing feelings with each other.  

“There are two significant things that unite this disparate slate of shows. One: They are all super funny, and two: We hope our fans agree,” said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman.
