Fox is moving full steam ahead with Famous. The comedy project, developed off-cycle, has landed a straight-to-series order. And while no casting has been set, the network is eyeing a June 12 premiere.
From Ralph Farquhar (Real Husbands of Hollywood) and Ty Hodges (A Girl Like Grace), the sitcom has received a 10-episode commission intended for the Sunday block.
The sitcom focuses on a young couple tested by the wife’s instant fame. Mockumentary style, told through couples therapy sessions, Famous‘ central duo are Fred and Geneva. They’re both high school teachers who fancy themselves as Hollywood material, but it’s Geneva who hits stardom when a music video she puts online goes viral and lands her a record deal. Fred, meanwhile, is an aspiring screenwriter who feels pushed to the sidelines by Geneva’s skyrocketing profile.
With Hodges perhaps best known for his work in front of the camera, the series marks a first-time writing collaboration between the actor and Farquhar. The latter, a TV veteran, was staffed on Married With Children before writing for Moesha and co-creating spinoff The Parkers.
Famous joins a scripted summer lineup that includes the sophomore run of Wayward Pines and British acquisition Houdini and Doyle.
Farquhar is repped by Jim Kellem/JKA Talent and Del Shaw Moonves.
