The Conners took a decent-size ratings hit in its second week on the air, and the rest of ABC’s Tuesday lineup also declined. Fox’s World Series coverage, meanwhile, delivered preliminary numbers about even with those of last year.
The Conners scored a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 for its second episode, off 29 percent versus its premiere last week. It fell 25 percent in viewers (7.93 million versus 10.56 million). The Kids Are Alright (1.1), Splitting Up Together (0.7) and The Rookie (0.8) also fell by at least 20 percent in the demo, while Black-ish (0.9) was off 10 percent — a 10th of a point — week to week.
ABC notes that The Conners delivered the network’s best 8 p.m. Tuesday rating opposite Game 1 of the World Series since 2013.
The World Series opened with a 10.0 household rating in metered markets, on par with the 10.2 for Game 1 in 2017. That puts it in the middle of the pack for World Series openers this decade — behind the previous three years but ahead of every Game 1 from 2011 to 2014. In the finals, the game came in at 13.76 million viewers, down 8 percent from a year ago, and a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demo, down 5 percent.
NBC won the race for second place Tuesday, although both The Voice (1.6, -0.2) and This Is Us (2.1, -0.1) were off a little week to week. New Amsterdam, however, rose by 0.2 to 1.4 in the final ratings.
CBS NCIS (1.2), FBI (1.0) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.8) all matched their numbers from a week ago. The Flash was steady at 0.7 on The CW and Black Lightning ticked up to 0.4.
Fox averaged a 3.7 rating among adults 18-49 in primetime, pending updates. NBC finished second at 1.7, and ABC and CBS tied for third at 1.0. The CW posted a 0.5.
