ABC had the top-rated premiere of the season to date with The Conners on Tuesday night, but that didn’t translate to big numbers across the rest of its lineup.
Roseanne spinoff The Conners‘ 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.46 million viewers is the best for a series debut this fall, but it was down considerably from Roseanne‘s massive premiere in March. Its halo effect was also limited.
New comedy The Kids Are Alright (1.4) put up solid numbers at 8:30, turning in the third-best premiere numbers (after its lead-in and Fox’s The Cool Kids) for a first-year comedy this fall. Drama The Rookie, however, managed only a 1.0 at 10 p.m., on par with where Kevin (Probably) Saves the World debuted last season. (The Rookie did draw a bigger total audience with 5.38 million viewers to 4.17 million for Kevin.)
In between, Black-ish (1.1) and Splitting Up Together (1.0) began their seasons about where they left off in May.
At NBC, The Voice (1.7) and This Is Us (2.2) each slipped a tenth of a point week to week, and New Amsterdam came down two tenths to 1.2. NCIS (1.2, -0.2) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.8, -0.1) each declined a bit on CBS, but FBI held at last week’s 1.0.
The Gifted turned in a series-low 0.6 on Fox, while Lethal Weapon was steady at 0.7. The Flash (0.6, -0.2) and Black Lightning (0.3, -0.1) each declined from their premieres last week on The CW.
NBC led the network standings with a 1.7 in adults 18-49 for the night. ABC took second at 1.3, followed by CBS, 1.0, Fox, 0.6, and The CW, 0.5.
Oct. 19, 7:40 a.m. This story initially misstated the ranking of The Kids Are Alright among new comedies of the fall. It had the third-highest premiere ratings.
