Current TV has named veteran television executive Shelley Lewis as executive vice president of programming. She most recently served as an executive producer of PBS’ Need to Know newsmagazine.
Lewis will begin her new position Monday, Sept. 19 and will report to Current TV president David Bohrman. In her new position, she will drive news analysis and political commentary with a primary focus in primetime.
“I’ve had the great fortune of working with Shelley Lewis in the past, and she’s a great fit for what Current is doing,” said Bohrman. “She is a great idea person and team leader and has the perfect combination of relationships, experience and entrepreneurial drive to help us establish Current as a new kind of multi-screen news experience for a new kind of news viewer.”
Lewis was co-creator of Air America Radio and served as a senior programming executive until 2006. She also worked at CNN, launching several shows, including Greenfield at Large and was executive producer of American Morning with Paula Zahn. She also executive produced New York-based coverage during the first months of the Iraq war in 2003.
Prior to CNN, she served as an executive producer on several ABC News programs, including Good Morning America and World News Now.
