The CW’s Jane the Virgin has found its female lead.
Filly Brown star Gina Rodriguez has been cast in the title role of the one-hour drama pilot from Emily Owens, M.D. creator Jennie Snyder Urman, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Adapted from a Venezuelan telenovela, Jane the Virgin takes place after the surprising and unforeseen events that cause Jane (Rodriguez), a hard-working, religious young Latina woman to be accidentally artificially inseminated.

Urman will executive produce the CBS Television Studios entry alongside Electus’ Ben Silverman, Gary Pearl and Jorge Granier. Jane the Virgin marks Urman’s second pilot this season, joining Fox’s Sober Companion which the network is eyeing toward a series production.
Rodriguez’s television credits include recurring gigs on Bold and the Beautiful and Army Wives, as well as guest stints on Longmire, Happy Endings, The Mentalist and Rizzoli & Isles. She is repped by APA and Intellectual Artists Management.
Jane the Virgin is one of six drama pilots The CW has ordered, including Arrow spinoff The Flash, Identity, iZombie, The Messengers and Supernatural spinoff Tribes.
