The staffs of The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and John Oliver‘s Last Week Tonight will be among the teams slated to face off at a celebrity soccer tournament this weekend as part of NYFEST.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Pier 5, Brooklyn Bridge Park, the day’s events includes an industry tournament, a celebrity match and a youth showcase, with games and skills clinics for kids led by coaches from the new New York City FC.
The star-studded match for charity begins at 1:30 p.m., with former soccer pros and national team players Claudio Reyna, Tony Sanneh, John Harkes, Jimmy Conrad and Chris Armas competing alongside actors Tim Blake Nelson, Matthew Lillard, Michael Rapaport, Gale Harold, Brett Claywell and Survivor’s Ethan Zohn, among others.
John Oliver — who covered The Hollywood Reporter‘s latest issue — will be playing for the Last Week Tonight team and Dylan Leiner for Sony Pictures Classics, while the Tribeca Film Festival, Law and Order: SVU and execs from companies such as YouTube, NBCU and A24 will also get in the game.
THR is a media partner at the event. The day’s events precedes the premiere of the documentary Next Goal Wins, centering on the American Samoan national soccer team, at the Tribeca Film Festival. For more on the 45 teams competing in Saturday’s matches, head to nyfest.org.
