The Daily Show With Jon Stewart has upped three to executive producer, while The Colbert Report has promoted a longtime producer.
In a nod to the Comedy Central series’ stability, The Daily Show has elevated Steve Bodow and Adam Lowitt, both 12-year Daily Show veterans, as well as Jen Flanz, who began with the show in 1998 as a production assistant, to executive producers on the long-running show. Over at Colbert, Emily Lazar, with the 11:30 p.m. show since its 2005 launch, was promoted from supervising producer to co-executive producer.
“For over 1,300 shows Emily Lazar has introduced me to people and ideas I never knew I cared so much about. She really makes me seem interesting,” noted executive producer and host Stephen Colbert, whose show usurped the Emmy crown from longtime winner Daily Show at this past year’s awards show. Lazar has been responsible for securing a vast spectrum of guests, from first lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton to Hollywood A-listers Matt Damon and Kevin Spacey.

Both late-night shows have proved particularly valuable franchises for corporate parent Viacom, regularly delivering young and sizable audiences in addition to heaps of critical praise. Thus far this season, Daily Show is delivering 2.1 million total viewers, with its key 18-49 viewership the biggest of all late-night shows on cable or broadcast. For its part, Colbert is luring 1.64 million total viewers, 902,000 of them in that key demo.
The Daily Show news comes a few months after another veteran, showrunner Rory Albanese, departed for Hollywood, where he inked a development deal with Warner Bros. TV. Also getting a boost in Stewart’s flurry of promotions: Tim Greenberg and Hillary Kun, who are being promoted to co-executive producers, Justin Melkmann, upped to supervising producer and Elliott Kalan, who was named head writer. All four have been with the show for at least eight years; Melkmann has been there since 1996.
