The Daily Show was hit with criticism on Monday when the Comedy Central show tweeted a joke following the Supreme Court’s ruling against a Texas abortion access law.
“Celebrate the #SCOTUS ruling! Go knock someone up in Texas!” the Daily Show tweeted to its more than 4.2 million followers.
The tweet was hammered with negative feedback on the social media platform.
About an hour after the first tweet, The Daily Show tweeted once more, seemingly walking back the joke, but not deleting it from its Twitter account.
“Friends, we’re certainly not promoting abortions. Just excited about #SCOTUS reaffirming right to choose,” the show tweeted.
The Supreme Court voted 5-3 on the decision.
