Dr. Phil’s daytime empire is expanding.
The longtime host is teaming with The Daily Mail and CBS Television Distribution to launch a new syndicated newsmagazine series based on the British publication in the fall.
DailyMailTV has been picked up by Sinclair Broadcast Group, Tribune Broadcasting and Gray Television Inc. and have cleared the show, bringing initial coverage to 105 markets and 66 percent of the country.
The series will feature exclusive stories and other content from DailyMail.com and cover breaking news on topics including the entertainment business, crime, health, science and technology.
McGraw will exec produce the series with his producing partners; his son Jay McGraw and Carla Pennington, as well as DailyMail publisher, CEO and editor-in-chief Martin Clarke. Jaw McGraw’s Stage 29 Productions will produce the show. It’s not yet known who will host the series.
‘We are thrilled to be working with our partners Sinclair, Tribune, Gray and distributor CBS Television Distribution to bring DailyMailTV to viewers across the country,” Dr. Phil McGraw said. “The show will combine all of the best elements of the website that will both engage and entertain TV audiences.”
Added Clarke: “The series will be a fantastic showcase for all DailyMail.com’s brilliant and exclusive news, showbiz and video content, and our entire global team is committed to making it work. We look forward to working with our partners in developing a hit show like nothing currently on the market. I would just like to thank Dr. Phil, Jay and Carla for all the incredibly hard work that I know has gone on behind the scenes to get us to this stage.”
DailyMailTV is one of two news programs hitting the syndicated market next season. After a successful trial in the summer of 2016, Page Six TV — based on the popular gossip column from the New York Post — will launch next fall.
The addition of DailyMailTV comes as CBS Television Distribution is about to wrap another syndicated newsmagazine, The Insider, in September after 13 years. CBS Television Distribution is also home to Entertainment Tonight, Judge Judy, Inside Edition, Jeopardy!, Rachael Ray, Wheel of Fortune and Hot Bench.
This is just the latest collaboration between Dr. Phil McGraw and CBS, where his overall deal runs through 2020. He also exec produces his self-titled talk show, as well as the primetime drama series Bull, which is based on his former career as a trial consultant. The Michael Weatherly-led series was recently renewed for a second season. Jaw McGraw produces both Bull and daytime medical show The Doctors through Stage 29 Productions.
