Adult Swim is keeping Rick and Morty around.
The Turner-owned cabler, which airs originals nightly from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., has renewed the animated series from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland for a third season.
The season two debut, Adult Swim said, has posted triple-digit gains among viewers adults 18-49, 18-34 and 18-24. Week two of the series, which returned July 26, grew 27 percent among all key demographics with the season premiere helped generate 29.7 million streams to Adult Swim’s YouTube channel.
“It’s an honor to see Rick and Morty join the exclusive club of shows with over 19 episodes,” said Harmon, who co-created and exec produces the series with Roiland. “It’s time to demand that the network allow us to draw the characters going to Hawaii.”
The renewal comes as Harmon’s cult comedy Community is unlikely to see another season on Yahoo though a movie seems more likely. The pickup comes as Harmon is prepping an IFC pilot.
