Heads were bound to roll after some of the dismal scores delivered during Dancing With the Stars‘ rock week, leaving nearly half of the remaining 10 couples eligible for easy elimination during Tuesday’s results show.
Spared from any tension were Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The duo were the first declared safe from the third axe of the season, though Gilbert did not attend the broadcast. After sustaining a mild concussion during Monday’s performance, she was advised to take a day off by her doctor. Chmerkovskiy said the diagnosis wouldn’t affect their plans for next week.

Two of the lowest-scoring celebrities, Gladys Knight and Gavin DeGraw, were both given an early reprieve despite their familiarity with sweating it out in the bottom. And since it was a rare announcement of only a bottom two during the show, most couples quickly joined them in their safety.
That did not include Roshon Fagan and Chelsie Hightower. The duo were the first declared to be in jeopardy — even though judge Carrie Ann Inaba praised Fagan as the best male competitor and their 26 made them the second highest scorers.

Joining them in the bottom two were Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy. The two fan favorites haven’t had particularly high scores, but they didn’t seem poised for elimination.
Unfortunately, they were. A tearful Shepherd was sent back to her day job on The View.
“I just want to say thank you for letting me live a dream that I’ve always had,” she said before thanking her partner as a rather insensitive chorus of “Another One Bites the Dust” played them out.
