Dante Di Loreto, who has served as president of 20th Century Fox Television-based Ryan Murphy Television, has joined Chernin Entertainment as president of television.
“Dante has consistently delivered inspired television series that capture unique characters and stories. He’s a champion of courageous writers and vision. We look forward to getting started with him,” Chernin Entertainment head of film and TV Jenno Topping said in a statement announcing the news Monday. Di Loreto will report to Topping.
Di Loreto’s appointment comes after
Chernin Entertainment recently inked a new two-year overall deal with Universal Television after being based at
20th TV, where
Ryan Murphy and
Brad Falchuk are currently housed. Di Loreto fills the void that was created when
Katherine Pope exited Chernin to board
Jeff Robinov‘s new TV unit at Studio 8.
Di Loreto started with Murphy’s shingle in 2008 on his ahead-of-its-time FX pilot
Pretty/Handsome and has served as an executive producer on Fox’s
Glee and its Oxygen reality
spinoff The Glee Project, NBC comedy
The New Normal as well as FX’s
American Horror Story. He also exec produced HBO’s critically praised TV movie
The Normal Heart. He exited Murphy’s shingle several months ago.
Murphy is one of the most valuable producers in television. His last overall deal, a four-year pact inked with the studio in 2010, most recently yielded Fox’s Scream Queens, which was picked up straight to series with a 15-episode order and was the first piece of new business under new Fox toppers Dana Walden and Gary Newman.
Under Di Loreto, Murphy’s banner developed series including American Horror Story and HBO’s sexuality drama Open, the latter of which did not move forward. The company is also prepping an expected sequel to The Normal Heart.
