Following the news that David Bowie lost his battle with cancer at age 69, late-night television paid tribute to the rock n’ roll icon on Monday night.
Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon worked Bowie memories into their monologues, and indie outfit El Vy covered “Let’s Dance” for its Late Show With Stephen Colbert performance.
Conan had the greatest first-hand connection. He had interviewed the man himself several times over his show’s history, so he fired up some archival gems last night.
Watch the clip below for some humorous looks at Bowie personas that could have been (the “corn on the cob period”), a completely made up story about drinking with Elvis and a songwriting showdown with O’Brien.
Ever the music aficionado, Jimmy Fallon showed off Bowie’s Blackstar vinyl and announced plans to get in touch with Bowie: “I hope he checks his e-mail in space.”
