CBS has earned 50 Daytime Emmy nominations, followed by PBS (44), ABC (38), Nickelodeon (36) and NBC (25), the National Academy said today.
The program with the most nominations is CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless (23), followed by ABC’s General Hospital (19), which this year marked its 50th anniversary, extraordinary longevity for an increasingly endangered genre.
PBS’ children’s program Sesame Street and NBC’s Days of our Lives each drew 17 nominations. The Ellen DeGeneres Show snagged ten nominations including outstanding talk show where her program will be up against Live! With Kelly and Michael, The Talk and The View. Katie Couric’s freshman talker earned a nomination in the outstanding talk show/informative category along with The Doctors and Dr. Oz.

Veteran Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek earned another nomination for outstanding game show host (even as producer Sony TV is planning for his inevitable retirement with Anderson Cooper and Matt Lauer mentioned as possible heirs). He’ll be up against Ben Bailey of Discovery’s Cash Cab, Wayne Brady of CBS’ Let’s Make a Deal, Billy Eichner of Funny or Die’s Billy on the Street (which airs on Fuse) and Family Feud’s Steve Harvey.
Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash, who resigned last year amid allegations of sexual relationship with an underage boy, received a nom for outstanding performer in a children’s series. He’ll compete with fellow Sesame Street performers Joey Mazzarino and David Rudman and Ocean Mysteries’ Jeff Corwin.
Sesame Street once again earned a nom for outstanding pre-school children’s program where it will compete against Nickelodeon’s The Fresh Beat Band and NBC’s Pajanimals.
And in spite of ratings woes, NBC’s Today show once again earned a nom for outstanding morning program where it will compete with CBS Sunday Morning and ABC’s morning news ratings leader Good Morning America. (CBS This Morning was not entered in the category.)
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to game show icons Monty Hall and Bob Stewart.
“We are honoring two giants in game show history,” NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges said in a statement. “So many of us grew up watching Monty Hall excite us with what was behind Door # 1, #2 or #3 and found ourselves addicted to the challenge and imagination of Bob Stewart’s classic To Tell the Truth, Password Pyramid and others. The high-water mark these two pioneers have made in daytime television is unparalleled and the entire Emmy Award community stands in appreciation for the immeasurable contribution they have made to the game show genre”
The 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held June 16 at the Beverly Hilton, and will air live on HLN.
