And so begins the trailer for Dear White People.
Netflix dropped the trailer for its satirical series on Tuesday, providing a first look into how the streamer plans to adapt Justin Simien’s acclaimed 2014 big-screen feature of the same name.
Picking up where the movie left off, Lionsgate’s Dear White People follows a group of Winchester University students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age.
Set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university, where racial tensions bubble just below the surface, Dear White People is described as being a hilarious send-up of “post-racial” America that weaves together the universal story of finding one’s own identity and forging a wholly unique path.
Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) narrates the series, which also stars Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori and Ashley Blaine Featherson.
The first two episodes premiered at SXSW and landed the series on THR‘s Best of SXSW 2017 list, with critic Michael Rechtshaffen describing the adaptation as “retaining all its razor-sharp wit and then some.”
Netflix will release all 10 episodes on April 28. Watch the trailer, below.
