The trailer begins with a haunting rendition of the 1990s garage band’s “Come as You Are,” and immediately gives a sense of what it’s going to feel like when the various heroes and villains of the Marvel Netflix Universe start gathering together in one spot. In the first scene, Detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick) interrogates an arrested Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), covered in blood and oozing with the snark she’s become known for. Right before she says way too much, Jessica is cut off by the sudden appearance of a man wearing a suit and dark sunglasses.
“My name is Matthew Murdock,” says the hero known at night as Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox. “I’m your attorney.”
From there, the trailer checks in with the two other members of the Defenders, including Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who has somehow returned to New York despite being sent back to the Georgia prison Seagate at the end of Marvel’s Luke Cage. Moments later, Luke’s girlfriend Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) makes a connection between two budding “heroes for hire,” in Luke and Danny Rand (Finn Jones).
“I’m the immortal Iron Fist,” Rand tells Luke.
“You’re what?” Luke shoots back, echoing the words of Iron Fist critics everywhere.
The trailer also features a first look at the villains The Defenders are up against, including a resurrected Elektra (Elodie Yung), who died at the end of the second season of Daredevil, as well as Sigourney Weaver as a mysterious antagonist with a harsh warning: “The more connections you have, the easier it will be to break you.”
