COLOGNE, Germany — German commercial network ProSiebenSat.1 and a French broadcaster have given straight-to-series orders for local adaptations of the hit Danish reality format Married at First Sight in which complete strangers get hitched after meeting for the first time.
Snowman Productions in Denmark, a subsidiary of ProSieben’s production arm Red Arrow, developed the original format, which was a ratings hit on public broadcaster DR3.

The concept has six pairs of long-term singles matched up following separate profile interviews, with the pairs first meeting at the altar for their wedding. They then spend six weeks living together with camera teams recording everything. After the six weeks, each pair has to decide whether to get divorced or stay together.
Red Seven Entertainment, another ProSieben subsidiary, will produce the German version of the format. Red Arrow International would not disclose details of the French deal for Married at First Sight, except to say the local broadcaster also gave a straight-to-series order for the format. Red Arrow introduced the format to international buyers at the MIPCOM trade fair in Cannes earlier this month.
