After sharing the screen in My Best Friend’s Wedding and August: Osage County, Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney are reuniting again.
Mulroney is joining Amazon’s TV series Homecoming as a recurring guest star. He’ll play Anthony, the boyfriend to Roberts’ Heidi, who is eager to please but a bit needy. Over the course of the show, Anthony grows increasingly frustrated with Heidi’s lack of attention to him and their relationship.
In addition to Roberts, Mulroney joins Shot Fire‘s Stephan James, Girls‘ Alex Karpovsky and Bobby Cannavale in the half-hour drama, which is based on Gimlet Media’s fictional podcast of the same name. Homecoming is described as a psychological and political thriller that centers on a caseworker at a secret government facility (Roberts) and a returning soldier (James) eager to rejoin civilian life. Universal Cable Productions is producing the show, which landed a two-season straight-to-series order at Amazon last summer after a bidding war with other outlets.
Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is directing, and the podcast’s creators, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, are writing the adaptation. The trio will executive produce with Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content and Alicia Van Couvering, along with Gimlet Media’s Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber. Roberts is also executive producing through her RedOm banner, with partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Gill co-executive producing.
Mulroney recently filmed Max Martini’s Will Gardner, Nathan Frankowski’s The Chickasaw Rancher and Scott Speer’s I Still See You last year and can be seen in The Mountain Between Us for Fox with Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. His past credits include Dirty Grandpa, Jobs and Zodiac. Elsewhere on TV, he’s had roles in New Girl and Shameless.
Mulroney is repped by WME.
