With Desperate Housewives having shot just three episodes of its newly announced eighth and final season, star Felicity Huffman took a moment during the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour to talk about what she currently knows the future holds for her character, Lynette.

Huffman tells The Hollywood Reporter she’d like to see the breakup happen, because it offers more dramatic possibilities for her character. “I think it’s much more interesting,” she says of a possible divorce storyline for her character and Tom (Doug Savant). “It’s much more fertile.”

She may get her wish – at least in the short term – executive producer Bob Daily confirms that both Tom and Lynette will date other people next season and we hear that the children will suffer a bit as the breakup continues.
“Tom and Lynette are dealing with one, how to tell the kids,” Huffman says of where we’ll find the couple when the season begins. “And also, because when you’re married, each one has to make up for the others’ deficiency. You know if you’re not a strong disciplinarian, the other one becomes one. If you’re messy, the other one becomes kind of tidy. And with a divorce, you both sort of have to be your own complete parent. So, they’re dealing with that with the children.”

When asked if there was anything she didn’t like about her character, Huffman surprisingly replied, “I’ve honestly tried to shy away from and circumvent or pad Lynette’s bitchiness.”
“I always find that really hard to swallow,” she continues. “Because I know it’s kryptonite for a marriage. I also know that it’s funny and you can drop a joke quickly. That’s what’s great about what’s happening now.”
