Disney XD has ordered a second season of Disney Television Animation’s Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero, which stars Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch as the title character.
The returning cast also includes Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect 2), Tania Gunadi (Enlisted), Alfred Molina and Larry Wilmore. Lea Thompson, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez and Lenny Venito have recurring roles.
Created and executive-produced by Jared Bush and Sam Levine, the animated comedy adventure centers on an ordinary boy who inherits the extraordinary job of part-time hero.
He and his friends get zapped to other dimensions to fill in for heroes in need, with each mission taking the team to unpredictable epic worlds where they must battle evil part-time villain Rippen (Molina) and his part-time minion, Larry (Wilmore).
Season two finds Penn and the gang zapping into the worlds of anime, pirates with talking sea creature ships and the most epic “Rock, Paper, Scissors” battle of all time, among others.
“Jared and Sam have created a wonderful original series in Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero,” said Marc Buhaj, senior vp programming and general manager at Disney XD. “The show has rich, unique stories and our audience has instantly responded to its engaging cast of characters. With season two, we are excited to uncover the origins of our part-time heroes and delve deeper into the characters’ mysterious backstories.”
The show debuted in February.
Disney XD targets kids age 6-11, particularly boys, with a total of 31 Disney XD channels available in 25 languages around the world.
