The doctor is in.
Doc McStuffins is returning to Disney Junior in a new TV special aimed at teaching kids about healthy habits. The Doc Is In will feature the character interacting with real kids, families and medical professionals.
Set to some of the series’ songs, the special includes real medical professionals Dr. Myiesha Taylor, MD, founder of the Artemis Medical Society and the “We Are Doc McStuffins” movement, and Mark Lee, RN, who provides tips to preschoolers about ways to prevent spreading germs.
The special, which is especially timely as the world continues to deal with the global coronavirus pandemic, is set to debut at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, Dec. 4, coinciding with National Handwashing Awareness Week.
Along with the special, a new toy — the Doc McStuffins “Wash Your Hands” Singing Doll — is set to launch. To celebrate, Disney Junior and Just Play have donated combined funds to Feeding America, which will help provide 2 million meals to families across the country.
The news comes on the heels of Disney Junior and Doc McStuffins recently teaming up with the World Health Organization to amplify the message of thorough hand-washing as a way to prevent the spread of germs and disease with a PSA, which was released on Global Handwashing Day (Oct. 15).
“Doc McStuffins is a role model for taking good care of oneself and others,” said Joe D’Ambrosia, senior vp original programming and general manager at Disney Junior. “With this new special, we hope to empower our young viewers by highlighting simple actions they can take in order to stay safe and healthy, and also provide a resource for parents and caregivers to talk to their kids about healthy habits, which has become especially relevant during these challenging times.”
Doc McStuffins, which premiered in March 2012 and aired new episodes through April 2020, tells the story of a young girl who aspires to be a doctor like her mom and communicates with and heals broken toys and stuffed animals. The show was created by Chris Nee.
