Dolph Lundgren is heading to the small screen.
The Expendables actor will make his TV debut with Rescue 3, an hourlong action-adventure drama set to premiere in fall 2013 on Tribune stations.
Emmett/Furla Films, in conjunction with Envision Entertainment, will co-finance the 20-episode season, with Tribune giving the series a two-year order for a guarantee of 104 weeks.
Rescue 3 revolves around Southern California’s elite multi-agency task force and consists of the top-tier L.A. lifeguards, firefighters and coast guard agencies with each episode revolving around a rescue involving all three agencies.
Lundgren will play Capt. John Mathews, a reluctant hero and career firefighter and lifeguard who leads a specialized unit comprised of experts in air, fire and water rescue.
“We are very happy that first-run scripted programming is back in syndication. Rescue 3 will definitely be a success for our stations,” Tribune president of programming and entertainment Sean Compton said.
“Dolph Lundgren brings an impressive body of film work into this, his first television series, which capitalizes on his enormous popularity worldwide. I am excited and honored to be working alongside Dolph and can’t think of a better person to lead our team both on- and off-camera,” Emmett/Furla co-founder Gregory J. Bonann said.
Engine-Sierra and Aldamisa International are handling international sales worldwide.
Lundgren, repped by BMP and Bloom Hergott, also appeared in Rocky IV, A View to a Kill and The Punisher, among others.
