Donald Trump called into Good Morning America Wednesday to talk about his strategy for the first GOP debate.
“I don’t want to attack anybody, and maybe I’ll be attacked and maybe not,” said Trump, the current Republican presidential frontrunner in the polls. “I’d rather just discuss the issues but, you know, certainly I don’t want to attack. If I’m attacked, I have to, you know, do something back but I’d like it to be very civil.”
When asked if he thought he would be the target of Thursday’s debate, Trump said, “Well I probably am the target, and I was very honored to see that two men who really did attack me very viciously actually, and I only attacked back after they started, but they went down very substantially.” He added, “In fact, Lindsey Graham went down to zero, so the voters were fantastic as far as I’m concerned.”
Trump said he has “always been tough on very important issues” and talked about China, education and how John McCain is letting veterans down.
He added, “I was proud to bring up the illegal immigration and took a lot of heat the first week, and now everybody is saying I was right and they’re apologizing to me, and it’s become a major point which I’m very proud of. It’s a disaster for our country.”
