Getty ImagesDonald Trump Jr.‘s controversial hunting trip in Africa is negatively affecting his famous father’s TV franchise: well, at least one sponsor has dropped ads from The Celebrity Apprentice. Not earth-shattering but bad press nonetheless.
The advertiser in question: Camping World, an RV-and-outdoor-supply company. CEO Marcus Lemonis tells TMZ, “I wouldn’t spend another nickel with them.” Camping World’s ads have already appeared this season on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, where Trump Jr. is a co-judge with dad Donald Trump and sister Ivanka Trump.
Camping World did not respond to THR‘s request for comment. Representatives for Trump Jr. called TMZ’s report inaccurate, without giving further information.
Earlier this week, Trump Jr. — who thus far had managed to avoid the sort of scandals that typically plague Trump Senior — made headlines when photos surfaced of him posing triumphantly with dead animals he’d killed on safari in Zimbabwe alongside younger brother, Eric Trump.
“Not a pr move I didn’t give the pics but I have no shame about them either. I HUNT & EAT game,” Trump wrote, defending himself on Twitter. In another response, he said the meat from the carcasses “fed a village for weeks,” and that nothing was wasted.
Trump, who is executive vice president of The Trump Organization, and his sibling hunted such animals as elephants, crocodiles, and water buck. The photo evidence, leaked to TMZ, shows Trump clutching the tail of an elephant in one hand and a knife in the other, perhaps the most disturbingly graphic image.
Trump’s hunting controversy, which attracted outrage from animal lovers and activists, trails recent incidents involving GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons, who drew heavy criticism last year when he uploaded footage of him shooting and killing an elephant in Zimbabwe, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, who recently updated his status on the social network to announce he’d killed a goat and a pig.
