James Corden’s Drop the Mic series is ramping up for its debut.
Method Man and Hailey Baldwin are set to host the forthcoming TBS project based on the popular Late Late Show segment. Additionally, it was announced Wednesday that the celebrity rap battle competition will premiere on Tuesday, May 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Turner network.
Picked up by TBS in August, Drop the Mic will pit four stars from the worlds of entertainment, music, sports and pop culture against one another in a rap battle royale. The studio audience will then vote on the winner.
Corden will executive produce the series with his Late Late Show exec producers Ben Winston and Jensen Karp, with Ed Thomas set to co-exec produce. CBS Television Studios and Winston’s Fulwell 73 will produce.
“This is a one-of-a-kind entertainment opportunity,” Turner senior vp unscripted and special event programming Michael Bloom said Wednesday in a statement. “Drop The Mic is a funny, authentic, high-energy series that brings together hip-hop, comedy and pop culture in a way we’ve never seen before. Method, Hailey, James, Ben and their team will make sure our celebrity competitors bring their ‘A’ game to the stage.”

Added Winston: “Method Man and Hailey Baldwin are the perfect hosts for our show. Two talented, funny, great people on a show that we hope will get everyone talking — we can’t wait to get started.”
Drop the Mic is the latest offshoot from Corden’s Late Late Show following Apple TV’s forthcoming Carpool Karaoke series based on Corden’s other wildly popular segment. The two series follow the success of Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, which hails from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Spike TV also recently launched its own version of Carpool Karaoke called Caraoke Showdown.
Method Man (real name: Cliff Smith) is known for his solo hip-hop career as well as his work as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He is also an actor whose credits include Oz, The Wire and Luke Cage, as well as upcoming roles in David Simon’s porn drama The Deuce and John Singleton’s BET series Rebel.
In addition to her modeling work, Baldwin is known for her rampant social media following.
