HONG KONG – Having just established its first Chinese office in Shanghai, modeling agency Elite World has furthered its plans of mining the country’s vast market of faces and fashionistas with China’s Elite Model, a reality-television modeling competition to be screened in China next summer.

A co-production between Elite and Metan Development –- the company established in 2009 by E! Entertainment Television co-founder Larry Namer and industry figures Martin Pompadur and Jean Zhang –- China’s Elite Model will deploy its 12 episodes to introduce the basics of modeling, how the agency selects its talent, the scouting process across China, and training sessions in New York and Paris.
The series will conclude with live transmissions of the Chinese and international finals of the Elite Model Look competition. Casting for Chinese contestants will begin in March, according to a Metan press release –- the Chinese chapter of the contest has been in existence since 2005, and the country will be hosting the international finale for the sixth year in 2013.

“Elite wishes to not only assist in the deployment of brands in the fashion, luxury and beauty sectors in China but also to contribute to the development of the Chinese ‘fashion system’,” said Elite World CEO Stefania Valenti.
