Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola’s King Bee Productions, which produced two seasons of the HBO comedy Doll & Em, has inked a first-look TV deal with Canadian indie studio Entertainment One to develop and produce scripted series.
The multi-year overall pact will see eOne serve as the studio and control worldwide rights to scripted projects developed and produced with Mortimer’s production shingle. “King Bee is now at a moment where we are ready to grow, and eOne is the perfect partner for our slate of projects which are being developed in both the U.S. and the U.K.,” said Mortimer and Nivola in a statement.
Through King Bee Productions, the husband-and-wife team have projects in development at studios that include Amazon and TruTV and are currently in post-production on the independent feature To Dust, starring Geza Rohrig (Son of Saul) and Matthew Broderick.
Mortimer will next be seen starring with Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep in Mary Poppins Returns, and she recently completed production on Mary, starring opposite Gary Oldman. The TV deal with King Bee Productions was negotiated for eOne by Polly Williams, vp scripted development, and Carolyn Newman, senior vp scripted programming.
eOne has existing first-look deals with Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci and Wren Arthur’s Olive Productions, Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson’s ASAP Entertainment and StoryBy Entertainment.
