Emily VanCamp is returning to broadcast television.
Nearly two years after wrapping her four-season run on ABC’s Revenge, the actress has signed on to star in Fox drama pilot The Resident.
The project revolves around an idealistic young doctor (Manish Dayal) who begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern-day medicine. Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered.
VanCamp will play Nicolette (aka Nic), the nurse who is Conrad’s (Matt Czuchry) on-again/off-again romantic fling. The casting marks her return to series regular broadcast television work following roles on Revenge, Brothers & Sisters and Everwood. Since Revenge wrapped two years ago, the actress has been focused on features, with credits including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and its sequel, Civil War; as well as The Agent 13. She is repped by UTA, Thruline Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
The Resident hails from writer Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza) and Hayley Schore, who will executive produce alongside Roshan Sethi, Oly Obst, Antoine Fuqua and Phillip Noyce, with the latter set to direct the 20th Century Fox Television pilot.
The cast also includes Bruce Greenwood and Shaunette Renee Wilson.
VanCamp’s casting comes a day after Fox pushed fellow medical drama pilot The Beast, from executive producer Neal Baer, off-cycle until after pilot season after trouble finding a star.
